The tarot cards are good at describing wonderful things happening in our lives. But sometimes we can find it difficult to move forward towards the dream we envision in our minds. When we should be enjoying every step we take towards fulfillment, we often hesitate and even self-sabotage our chances. Sometimes we are unable to sew what is right in front of us. Many times we only let others see our facade. Below is a list of what the Major Arcana cards can mean as challenges and obstacles.

Major Arcana as Obstacles and Challenges in your tarot reading

This is a guide only, and hopefully, it can help you identify what the obstacle is in a situation so that you can overcome them.

The Fool as an obstacle can mean the Seeker’s Innocence is getting them in all kinds of trouble. They could either be too impulsive or they are unable to recognise a good opportunity. They could find it hard to discern between good and bad situations.

The Magician as an obstacle can mean the Seeker is confused and they could feel very unhappy and emotionally drained. They want to expand and have major breakthroughs but are too afraid to leave their comfort zone.

The High Priestess as an obstacle can mean the Seeker is always observing, but find it hard to participate in life. They could have a difficult relationship with their mother, and/or they find parenting hard themselves. There could be a need to heal issues around both father and mother. The Seeker could be stuck in some kind of Metamorphosis, but unable to fully see it through.

The Empress as an obstacle can mean the Seeker feels they are blocked from their destiny. There could be issues with stability in their own lives and in some cases there could also be neglect by people involved. The Seeker could be on an emotional roller-coaster and self-sabotages in attempts to regain control.

The Emperor as an obstacle can mean the Seeker has lost perspective on reality and needs to find their strength again. They could be following a vision that is leading them astray. They could be seeking justice for the wrong situations and causing more harm than good. When the Emperor is an obstacle, the Seeker could also deal with a lot of anger and rage.

The Hierophant as an obstacle can mean the Seeker is only seeing what they have been taught or told, and unable to properly think for themselves. They could be clouded with a negative mindset and they could also be victims of manipulations and lies. They could have delayed projects and plans that were important to them in an attempt to please others.

The Lovers as an obstacle can mean the Seeker is unable to deepen the connection in a relationship. They could find it hard to trust their heart and attract the wrong types. Others could be getting the rewards for their efforts and they could feel very ignored and unappreciated.

The Chariot as an obstacle can mean the Seeker is afraid of authorities, or one authority figure in particular. The Seeker could themselves come across as cross and difficult to get along with. Big personalities tend to collide when the Chariot is an obstacle, and the Seeker could be struggling to find their feet and their place in the world.

Strength as an obstacle can mean the Seeker is withdrawing from friends and family. They could feel judged by everyone around them. They could be afraid of telling the truth and some could be carrying secrets or burdens and they don’t know what to do with them.

The Hermit as an obstacle can mean the Seeker is dealing with deceit. There could be issues with controlling personality types as well. The Seeker could find it increasingly difficult to trust. The lesson they are learning is to trust more in themselves.

Wheel of fortune as an obstacle can mean the Seeker feels they have a lack of security and things are off-balance in their lives. They could feel they are being taken advantage of financially.
